Getting organised
Centrelink tip for mums of newborns
This is my big tip I learned the hard way. Fill out your Centrelink (government welfare) forms before you bring your new baby home. Forms are a pain when you are tired and dealing with a newborn in the first few months. You do not want to miss out on all that much needed money because you were too busy to get the forms in quickly.
Draw up a housework roster
Definitely draw up a household roster. You can use one of our printables for this. I have included one that is filled in as a sample and a blank one you can print off and use.

Create a bill folder
When sorting the mail put your bills straight in a bill in-tray or folder. Bulk pay your bills once a month online or at the post office if it is quicker that way.
Create a great system for mail
When sorting the mail make a CALLS pile and a DESK ADMIN pile. That way you can do all your calls at once and then all your desk jobs at once. Desk jobs include filling out forms or putting letters in envelopes ready to post. Also have an EMAIL AND ONLINE pile for doing all your computer jobs at once. Finally have an OUT AND ABOUT FOLDER. Grab this one when leaving the house. It will include jobs like going to the bank, paying school fees at the school office and posting letters.
Deal with mail right now
Deal with mail immediately, as soon as it enters the house.
Read junk mail outside
When dealing with mail throw junk mail straight in the bin on the way inside. If you are planning to cut coupons, go the junk mail straight away. Cut your coupons out and then discard the junk mail immediately.
Bin letters to householders
If the mail is not addressed to you add RETURN TO SENDER to the front and put it in your OUT AND ABOUT file.
Make a GO box
I keep a general OUT AND ABOUT BOX, which I call a GO BOX. I throw paper items I need to deal while on the road. I also throw items like sunglasses, wallet, phone or all of those items in a handbag in there. I also throw videos that need to be returned etc. This way I can exit quickly from the house in the morning without forgetting anything while heading out the door with the kids in the morning.
